Wearing Pink in October

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Why do we wear pink for breast cancer?
The pink ribbon represents fear of breast cancer, hope for the future, and the charitable goodness of people and businesses who publicly support the breast cancer movement. It is intended to evoke solidarity with women who currently have breast cancer.

October Fire Prevention month

This Saturday our volunteer firefighters are here

Firefighter Ashley will be our guest reader...

While out for a walk with her mom, a little girl has the surprise of her life — she meets a real, live, fire-breathing dragon! Now this dragon is nothing to be afraid of — in fact, he’s so friendly that she invites him home for tea. But their afternoon snack is suddenly interrupted when the dragon sneezes and sets the table ablaze. Luckily, the girl knows just what to do, and she teaches her new friend to be fire smart, too.

With its funny, rhyming verse and spunky illustrations, Dragons for Tea shows kids that learning about fire safety doesn’t have to be scary. The story ends with “The Dragon’s Fire Safety Rhyme” — a fun and easy way to remember what to do in case of fire.

Craft time

After learning about fire safety 🦺

And will will be sending the firefighters home with a gift basket to say Thank you!

Friday's Fave Five #902

Happy Friday from Sunny South Louisiana.....

  1.  Weather : Some rain but the Hurricane is missing us. But lets pray for those it will effect.
  2. Football time : High school football season has started and the evening weather is a little cooler.
  3. Bread : Im trying the new crockpot recipe hitting Facebook. Recipe below.
  4. Tech news : we have ATT putting in fiber in our small town. Hopefully the internet will get better.
  5. Fire Prevention Time : we have the fire department with us for Saturday at the library.

Easy Crockpot Bread :
I have had this on my facebook feed for a couple of days and i decided today I would try it.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of water 235ml
  • 2 1/4 tsp. of active dry yeast 7g
  • 1/3 cup of granulated sugar 66g
  • 2 Tbsp. of Canola or Vegetable oil 30ml
  • 3 cups of Bread Flour you can use all-purpose (360g)
  • 3/4 tsp of salt (4g)

Instructions

  • First, prepare your bread dough. Add the water to a bowl and heat it to 100 to 110 degrees F. Then add in a pinch of your sugar. After that add the yeast and let the mixture sit until it gets nice and foamy. About 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Next add all but 1 cup of the flour, the rest of the sugar, the salt, and the oil. Mix it with a stand mixer or wooden spoon until the dough comes together. The dough will be tacky. Pour it out onto a floured counter or table and knead the dough for 8 minutes. Adding more flour as necessary. Once the dough is kneaded place it in a bowl that has been lightly sprayed with kitchen spray, cover it, and let it rise for one hour or until doubled.
  • After the dough has risen, divide it in half and place it in 8×4 bread loaf pans. Or form the whole amount of dough into a ball. Place a piece of parchment paper in the crockpot and then add the dough to that. Cover the loaf pans or crockpot and allow the dough to rise again, for about 1 hour.
  • Place the loaf pan in the crockpot and cover it with the lid. Some people will also add a bit of water to the bottom of the crockpot. If you are doing the whole loaf method without the pan, then you won't add any water. Turn the crock pot on high and allow it to bake for 2 to 3 hours. It will be done when it is nice and golden brown on the top. Or check it with a thermometer. The internal temp should be around 200 F. (93 C).
  • After the bread is done, using hot mitts remove the bread from the crockpot and place on a wire rack to cool completely. Then slice into it and eat! Enjoy

Saturday at the Library we are celebrating Fire Prevention Month !

Diy Free Friday

It's Free Friday  on my blog. Well I did spend a $1 for napkin.  I used muti times.

My Halloween door hanger!

I used a 12 round cardboard from a frozen pizza.  Painted black, mod podge napkin and cat tape I had from years past.

My  tin can :

I used a can of vegetables.  Cleaned out. And covered with mod podge and wrapped napkin around can. Filled with flowers for a centerpiece.

Tip as a crafter: I never throw anything out that I can reuse.  Makes my family crazy. Lisa
