Some also believe that leaving milk and cookies for Santa Claus originated as an American holiday tradition in the 1930s, during the Great Depression. During that time of economic hardship, parents tried to teach their children to give to others and to show gratitude for the gifts they received at Christmastime.
Christmas Shortbread cookies:
- 2 cups butter, salted, cold and sliced into 1/2" pieces
- 1 cup light brown sugar, tightly packed
- 4 ½ cups all purpose flour, divided
- Sprinkles, optional
In a bowl of a mixer with paddle on . Mix sliced butter and brown sugar. Slowly add 3 1/2 c of the flour. Do not over mix. Add the other 1/2 flour to board and knead the dough. Once ready , h-e=n ready roll out and slice split into 3 and flatten and Cthill in fridge. When ready roll out and cut into rectangles and bake at 325 degrees for abou 15 minutes.
