Making her life a bit easier is Gentry, a young man with a past he's kept private until Emily's nonjudgmental approach enables him to open up to her while he's working for her at the flower shop and in the garden she maintains to supply the shop with native flowers.
How this town works around the "flower lady" through the antics of several unforgettable characters is a joy to observe (through reading) and to enjoy vicariously. Wish I lived in a similar town.
