VeganBurger: Portobello Burger

 Portobello Burger

Does you family ever have a meatless day? This burger made from Mushrooms is a great substitute for meat.  Give it a try and let me know who you like it ?

Portobello, pronounced [por-toh-BEHL-loh]The portobello also called portabella is really simply a brown crimini mushroom in disguise. Evidently the usage of the two words "portobello vs. portabella" is simply an issue of a marketing brand. Once the little brown crimini grows up to be about 4" - 6" in diameter he is deemed to be a portobello.

Ingredient

  • PPlace the mushroom caps, smooth side up, in a shallow dish. In a small bowl, whisk together vinegar, oil, basil, oregano, garlic, salt, and pepper. Pour over the mushrooms. Let stand at room temperature for 15 minutes or so, turning twice.

  • PPreheat grill for medium-high heat.

  • B Brush  grate with oil. Place mushrooms on the grill, reserving marinade for basting. Grill for 5 to 8 minutes on each side, or until tender. Brush with marinade frequently. Top with cheese during the last 2 minutes of grilling.

  • KKitchen Tip: The longer you cook the portobella the meatier (firmer textured) the mushroom gets. Grill your mushrooms longer for a "burger-like" texture.  Cook the mushrooms for less time if serving as a stuffed mushroom.

  • A    April  16th is  National Mushroom Day !
