How to Dye Marshmallows for Easter

This is so fun to do...

What you need :

  • large marshmallows
  • Easter egg dye kit
  • vinegar
  • food coloring
  • small round sponge paint brush
  • small egg-shaped cookie cutter

Follow the instructions on your Easter Egg Dye Kit.

Usually there are small tablets of color you mix with vinegar.

Start dying!

Dying marshmallows is very similar to dying eggs. Their spongey consistency helps them absorb dye well. Experiment with methods like a full plunge, dip-dye in a few colors, spatter paint and even polka dots.

Try a sponge.

Small round sponge brushes can help add food-coloring polka dots to the marshmallows. Make sure that the sponge is not too full of dye or the color will run and bleed. Allow to dry.

Or even a cookie cutter.

If you want to take things a step further, try using a small egg-shaped cookie cutter on your marshmallows. When the cutter is pressed down, if the marshmallow is similarly sized, it will expand to fill the shape with the pressure.

All that's left to do is hide the marshmallows in the grass for the kids to find! Remember that marshmallows don’t last as long as eggs, especially in the heat. They will, however, get stiff and a bit less sticky if you leave them to dry out overnight before hiding them.
