One of the reasons I love these pressed flower bookmarks is because the materials are so simple! You probably have most of what you need already.

Materials

• One of the reasons I love these pressed flower bookmarks is because the materials are so simple! You probably have most of what you need already.

1. Pick your flowers or leaves. (Freshly picked works best.)
2. Place them in a thick, heavy book. Make sure that they are slightly spaced apart. Also ensure that they’re placed in such a way that when the book closes, they’ll flatten nicely.
3. If you have it, place a heavy weight on the book. We used a 20 lb dumbbell and it worked really well! Alternatively, stack a few more heavy books on top of the one with the flowers in it.
4. Wait at least 2 days and open the book up. If they’re sufficiently pressed, you’re ready to go! If you want them more flat or dry, leave for another day or two.
5. Cut a bookmark-shaped strip of clear contact paper. Remove the backing and place it on a surface with the sticky side up. Then stick some pressed flowers to it. It looks cool if some of them hang over the edge! You can trim later.
6. Next, cut a slightly larger piece of contact paper and sandwich the flowers between the two pieces.
7. Finally, trim the larger contact paper to the size of the smaller one.

Homemade Sidewalk Chalk

 

DIY HOMEMADE SIDEWALK CHALK PAINT

INGREDIENTS

• 3 Cups of Corn Starch 
• 2-4 dashes food colouring, various colours
• 3 cups water, use more or less depending on desired consistency
• 
  Equipment:
• 4-6 plastic bowls, or a 6-cup muffin pan works great as a paint tray
• Paint brushes, preferably 1” or larger
• Food colouring

• This recipe can be made with smaller amounts too, using equal parts of corn starch and water. Using a large mixing bowl, add the water to the cornstarch and mix well until clumps are gone. Divide equal amounts into your separate bowls, add a few drops of food colouring to each bowl to create your colours, mixing well.

  While painting you’ll want to keep your colours looking vibrant, use your paint brush to give the paint a stir as the corn starch will settle on the bottom.

  The colours will look more brilliant as the paint dries. Works great on all types of sidewalks and driveways. Try painting some garden rocks too. Clean-up is a breeze, washes away easily with water, or let the rain take care of it. Non-toxic and safe for the gardens, it will actually help the soil retain moisture better!

  Storage: can be stored in jars with tight lids for a few days, shake well when ready to use again

DIY: Suncatcher

 DIY: Pony beads Suncatcher 

Happy Saturday it's time for a little fun with pony beads. 

• assorted pony beads
• Metal pie pan
• toothpicks 
• something to make whole.
• yarn for hanging 
• Oven 

Have the kiddos start to build a design in the tin pan.  Have them start in the middle and work outwards. Provide toothpicks in case a bead gets flipped over and the kids need to carefully flip it back without disturbing the other beads in their sun catcher design. 

When the children have finished their pan designs preheat the oven to 400 degrees and place the pans in the oven.  Leave the pans in the oven for 30 minutes. If possible open some windows for ventilation (the smell can get pretty bad).  

After 30 minutes check the pan to see if all of the bead have melted together and there are no holes.  If the sun catcher is ready, take out the pan using a potholder and put it on the stove top to cool. If the sun catcher is not ready give it 10 more minutes.

After the pony bead sun catcher is removed from the oven wait a few minutes then take a toothpick or wooden skewer and poke a small hole in the top (this will be where the string goes through).

Then let the sun catcher harden for at least 30 minutes.

After the plastic has hardened and cooled cut a 2 ft piece of string or yarn and put it through the hole.  Then tie the string and hang your sun catcher in a window or outside!

DIY Christmas Room Spray

 Christmas Room Spray ! 

• 4-ounce fine-mist spray bottle
• 2 ounces distilled water
• 1.5 ounces Everclear
• 50 drops  Douglas Fir,
• 20 drops Juniper Berry
• 5 drops Clove
• 5 drops Wild Orange 
  • 1–2 drops Cinnamon (
• label

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Rinse bottle(s) well with distilled water.
2. Add your essential oils. I designed this spray to be potent as I find I use less and the scent lingers longer. Feel free to scale down if you prefer a lighter spray.
3. Add grain alcohol and distilled water. Add Everclear or grain alcohol of choice. Swirl for a few seconds to dissolve the oils, then top with distilled water. Shake well and adjust to your liking, adding more oils for a stronger scent, or more a bit more distilled water for a lighter scent.
4. Affix the label. With a clean rag or towel, dry the bottle well and attach the label. For easiest placement, place the bottle on a flat, level surface like a table or countertop and align the label parallel to the water line. 

DIY Crafts : Ornaments

 DIY  Christmas Ornaments 

I gathered all my old pony beads  and made a cute ornaments . Its Friday Free project  

• Clear or colored  Pony Beads
• Cookie Cutt
• Fishing Line

• Arrange your cookie cutters on a flat pan lined with aluminum foil. Then fill your cookie cutters with beads. Then using a toaster oven or oven bake at 450 for 8 to 12 minutes or until beads melt. Let Col . Then unmold and hang with line or ribbon. 

Tips for Baking: 

• Melt the pony beads in a toaster oven OUTSIDE or on your porch so you don’t smell up your house.
• Have a designated baking sheet for melting beads – pick one up at the dollar store for future projects.
• Always use metal cookie cutters.  Plastic cookie cutters will…well….melt or burn. Yuck.
• We used clear pony beads, but any kind of pony bead will do.
• Do a VERY THIN layer of beads in the cookie cutter. If you put too many inside the cookie cutter, you will NOT be able to pop the ornament out of the cookie cutter when it dries.

RECYCLED CHUNKY CRAYONS

 

Recycle Old Crayons 

So you have an excuse to buy New ones 

• 20-30 old crayons
• metal muffin tin, any size
• cooking spray

Direction:

 Get out your old crayons. Take off the paper (if it is still on). Kids love to help with this! Then break or chop them into smaller pieces about 1/2 – 1 inch pieces.

Spray your muffin tin with cooking spray and add some crayons into each spot. The more or less you put depends on what size you want for each chunky crayon.

Place the muffin tin full of crayons into a preheated oven of 275 degrees F. I used both mini muffin tins and large muffin tins. Watch them carefully, they will melt fast. Bake them for about 7-8 minutes. When they look melted enough, carefully and slowly remove them from the oven.

Let Cool- Pop out and Color with your Chunky Crayons .

DIY Crayon Craft

 Recycled Crayon Frame 

One of my favorite smells of BTS is of New Crayons! But I like to take the old  used and broken crayons in crafts. Today's crafts is a picture frame made from crayons glued around a picture. 

• cardboard base 
• BTS paper 
• Glue
• Crayons. 

Cut your cardboard to size to  want, layer down paper and pictures, Then glue crayons around -end to end. Let dry. You can hang or but a Magnet on back for a cute Fridge magnet.

Mothers Day : Roses

Its National Knockout Roses day : the friday before Mothers Day 

Enjoy a break today : 

Everything is finally starting to come together for Vicky. She is moving on from the tragic death of her parents four years ago. There is hope of a romantic relationship with handsome Deputy Sheriff Mitchell Slate and she is enjoying running the grand, old inn with her sister and her Aunt Ida.

But then, Vicky finds the murdered body of the inn’s gardener. The inn has a wedding booked for the weekend so her wacky Aunt Ida ropes her into investigating the murder. It is a race against the clock to solve the murder so the wedding can go ahead as planned. This puts Vicky and Aunt Ida right in the line of danger.

Will Vicky and Aunt Ida be able to stay safe and solve the murder in time? Will the relationship between Deputy Sheriff Mitchell and Vicky blossom or will the mean, by-the-book Sheriff McDonnell stand in their way?

My Pick: 

This book was a very cute, quick, witty, and yes kind of predictable but it was great. I read for the enjoyment of the story not to check grammar and sentence structure that's not my job. I read other reviews and don't get how people can do that and still enjoy the book . This is about two sisters who own and run an inn with their Aunt Ida. When one of their quest check in with cash and only his first name red flags go up. While Vicky is walking in the garden looking for one of their employees she finds him murdered in among the roses. The story leads us along with Aunt Ida and Vicky as they look for clues to who the quest with the first name only is and who killed their employee. This is a quick read for a raining day and if you don't want to think about anything except loosing yourself in an easy read.

DIY Rose Water 

1 cup rose petals

1 cup dried rose petals

5 Cups distilled water

Add to sauce pan and bring to boil. Turn off and let seep for an hour. When cool bottle. 

Mardi Gras Mask

 

I made these quick mask with supplies on hand. Cut out mask ( template) in construction paper and decorate. With Flowers,sequins and Glitter and add a string or handle to your mask.

DIy Mardi Gras Beads

 It's Mardi Gras time in Louisiana! 

And we are planning a parade in town. Need some beads to give out? Make your own... 

Duct Tape beads : 

• Duct tape: green purple and yellow (or gold)
• Drinking straws
• Scissors
• Yarn or string

Start by cutting a piece of duct tape about as long as a plastic straw. It can be slightly longer or too short .   Lay the duct tape out with the sticky side facing up. Lay the straw along one side of the duct tape.

Simply roll the straw forward, wrapping it in duct tape. While  doing this step it might get weird wrinkles and crinkles from the tape sticking together in places. Just keep rolling. The wrinkles will create a really cool texture in the finished beads. 

Now you’re going to cut the straws into individual beads. I cut mine about 3/4 of an inch but you can cut them any size. Then thread on yarn or cord. 

Paper beads:

Paper ,magazine Paper or cereal box

Cut in small triangle.  

Then roll up and seal end with glue. From large end to small point. Add a drop of glue to hold. 

Seal beads with clear nail polish, glue or modge podge.  Let dry. This will give them a shine and let them last. 

And thread onto yarn, plastic or  beading cord.
