  • 4 tablespoons sugar, plus more for sprinkling

  • Pinch kosher salt

  • Pinch ground cinnamon

  • Pinch freshly grated nutmeg

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 cups whole milk

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter for the pan, plus more for serving

    • Eight (1/2-inch thickslices white bread

    • Maple syrup, for serving

  • Set a wire rack on a rimmed baking sheet in the oven and preheat to 200°F. If using very fresh, moist bread, arrange slices in a single layer on the rack and cook in oven, turning once, until lightly toasted, about 10 minutes.. Meanwhile, in a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla until thoroughly combined. Add milk and whisk to blend.  Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a large non-stick or cast iron skillet over medium heat, swirling skillet, until foaming subsides, about 5 minutes. Soak 2 slices of bread in egg bath, turning, until saturated. Add soaked bread to skillet and cook, swirling occasionally, until browned on bottom side, about 3 minutes. Sprinkle top side of bread with sugar, flip, and continue to cook, swirling occasionally, until browned on second side, about 3 minutes longer. Transfer French toast to the rack in the oven in a single layer to keep warm and repeat with remaining slices of bread and egg bath.  Serve French toast with pats of butter and maple syrup.

Honey Bee and flowers

My flower watercolor and Bee!

THERE ARE DIFFERENT FLAVORS AND COLORS OF HONEY.

Honey’s depth of flavor is determined by the source of the nectar it was made from. Linden honey is delicate and woodsy, buckwheat honey is strong and spicy, and eucalyptus honey has a subtle menthol flavor. The darkness or lightness of certain honey varies as well. Bees in the southeastern U.S. have even been known to produce honey that’s deep purple in color, though scientists can’t agree why.

DIY Water Gauge : STEM project

National Science day

We are learning about Rain-  Have fun with this easy STEM  project to do with the kids....

Making a Rain Gauge
  1. Cut the top section off a clear bottle as shown. ...
  2. Place several small rocks in the bottom (for weight), then fill the bottle with water to the 0 mark. ...
  3. Invert the top of the bottle into to rain gauge to act as a funnel. ...
  4. Wait for the next rain and obserCreate a log or a table to track rainfall in your area. For each entry, you’ll want to record the date, your rainfall measurement, and maybe even a sketch of the cloud cover that day. What other data might you want to record in your rain log?

    Process:

    • Keep your eyes on the daily weather forecast, or look at the sky each morning. Do you expect a lot of rainfall today? Can you predict how much?

    • Re-calibrate your gauge each morning: empty out all of the water until it’s level with the zero-mark. If the weather has been very dry, you may have to ADD a small amount of water to get up to the zero-mark, to make up for evaporation that occurred overnight.

    • Take a measurement at the same time every evening, to see how much rain fell during the day. Make a note in your log of how many centimeters and how many inches of rain fell over the course of the day.

    • Take daily measurements for one week, two weeks, or one month. Do you see patterns emerging? Does your ability to predict daily rainfall based on cloud cover become more accurate over time? Why do you think that is?

    ve and record rainfall amounts.

The Music of Home

Hello again! You are very welcome here at Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.
From the play Greenwillow comes the song The Music of Home:

Full of wonder as angel song
All the music of home
Thе music of home
Singing, "Home is wherе I
Belong"

There is a music to home.. let's talk about the music in your home.
1. Was home always your safe place? Or did it leave a lot to be desired?  What would improve the music in your home today?

Home is always a safe spot. Music and voices of my past is here.

2.Do you like coming home at the end of a day?  How about when you were a kid?
Always. Couldnt wait to come home.

3. What is the music of your home?  How would you describe life in your home growing up.. in the middle of your life and right now?  Is there a song that might fit your home?

We are Family since this is a Family house.
4. Like a symphony, home has it's ups and downs as the picture to the side illustrates.  What are your homes best ups and worst downs?( stories of happy times, busted water heaters, goofy things that have happened, etc

Its an old house - so lots of maintence and things needing fixing. When we moved in we pulled up the carpets in the house and found family pictures in laid in the floor.

The Assyrians and Greek believed in the medicinal properties of the nut.  Pistachios are also one of the oldest flowering nuts humans have been consuming for over 9000 years. It is also one of the two nuts mentioned in the Bible (Genesis 43:11).

Honey Drop Dead : Cozy Mystery

The murder of a political bigwig at a Honey Bee Tea sends Theodosia Browning buzzing for answers in this latest installment
of the
New York Times bestselling series.

Theodosia’s Honey Bee Tea was an elegant affair set in Charleston’s new Petigru Park amid newly planted native grasses and a community beekeeping project. But when a phony beekeeper shows up and sprays toxic smoke at the guests, the party erupts in chaos. Worse yet, a shot rings out and Osgood Claxton III, candidate for state legislature, falls to the ground—dead.

Holly Burns, the gallery owner who asked Theodosia to cater the tea, is understandably heartbroken. A man is dead, her guests are angry and injured, and the paintings that were on display are left in tatters. When the police don’t seem to have a clue, when old-line politicos don’t want questions asked, Holly begs Theodosia to run a shadow investigation and help restore her gallery’s good name.

Between hosting a
Wind in the Willows Tea and a Glam Girl Tea, Theodosia questions everyone that had a bone to pick with Claxton. This includes Booker, an angry outsider artist; Lamar Lucket, Claxton’s political opponent; and Mignon Merriweather, the dead man’s soon-to-be ex-wife. But the investigation becomes a political hot potato following a second murder, the revelation of a messy affair, a chase through a swamp, and a vandalized shop.

INCLUDES DELICIOUS RECIPES AND TEA TIME TIPS!

The character Theodosia is a real firecracker in a sweet Southern lady's body. The events were bizarre from the very beginning, and didn't stop till the end. Nothing seems to frighten this character for long and she takes risks most men wouldn't try. I admire this character very much despite the fact I would not dare do the least dangerous things she does. Again, looking out for others and facing enormous odds is what this character does and I admire that. I definitely highly recommend this book and all the others in the series.

Have you tried my honey bread on my blog? Or bees wax lip balm? I love honey in all forms....

Bees Wax Lip Balm

The Complete Laymans Guide to Beeswax: Learn to Make Soap, Candles, Lotion Bar, Salve, Body Butter, Lipstick, Furniture Polish, Pet Care & More - 70+ Ways You Can Use Beeswax

Learn to make Soap, Candles, Lotion Bar, Salve, Body Butter, Lipstick, Furniture Polish, Pet Care & More

70+ Ways You Can Use Beeswax in Every Aspect of Your Life

If you ever wanted to learn the easiest and fastest way to use Beeswax and enjoy the all its benefits then this book is for you.

Why do most people make the switch to beeswax-based products? Why bother making your own products? Why bother sourcing high-quality Beeswax or using natural oils to create these things?

The biggest benefit is that it’s natural and far healthier than the commercial alternatives. Go ahead, look at the ingredient list of common household products, like lotion bars, sunscreen, hand creams, or even shoe polish. Do you know most of these ingredients? Can you even pronounce them or say what they are there for? Of course not – most of us can’t.

★ I wanted to use healthier ingredients.

Switching to a healthier, more natural alternative creates a better, healthier household. You don’t have to use products you can’t pronounce, and you don’t understand how they even work. If you want to learn how to improve nearly every aspect of your home and life, keep reading – I’m here to help you!

I’m not a beekeeper, and I’ve never even handled a beehive, though I have visited a few. I get my Beeswax from local farms that raise bees themselves.

★ Despite that, I consider myself somewhat of an expert on the topic.

For over 10 years, I’ve made numerous household products. I don’t want to say I was a hipster, but I was certainly ahead of the ‘all-natural, organic’ wave that we’re going through right now.

In truth, I was fed up with products I didn’t really understand and the high prices associated with them. I wanted a natural alternative, and there really weren’t many at the time. Studies were starting to come out about the harmful effects of many everyday items we all use, and I wanted something more.

Lip Balm :

  • 1 1 oz pure, food-grade beeswax
  • 2 2 oz organic food-grade coconut oil
  • 1 tsp organic food-grade almond oil
  • Combine the beeswax, coconut oil, and almond oil and heat slowly in a double boiler over low heat until liquified, stirring often. Use your candy thermometer to ensure the heat doesn’t pass 180 degrees.
  • Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly, then add the vitamin E oil (if in capsule form, puncture each capsule and squeeze in the contents).
  • Stir the mixture for 5 minutes, then add the essential oil.
  • Stir again, then pour into individual containers.
  • Let the lip balm set overnight before adding labels/using.
