Coffee Cup Recycled Candle

  1. Prep your upcycled coffee mugs by washing and drying thoroughly.
  2. Grab your Superglue and natural candle wick. Put a drop of super glue on the bottom of the wick’s base. Then place wick base in the center of the mug and let dry. We recommend doing this to make sure the wick stays in place.
  3. Melt 12oz of palm wax:

Place sauce pan on stove top, add wax and turn on stove top to medium/high heat.

  1. Measure one tablespoon of coffee grounds (or whole beans) (used or unused).
  2. Once wax is melted, pour thin layer into mug while holding the wick straight up. We recommend using a funnel while pouring wax to keep from making a mess, cleaning up wax sucks.
Add a light layer of coffee and then add the rest of the wax. While wax is still wet, add the rest of the coffee and lightly stir coating the coffee in the wax. Make sure beans are not too close to the wick or they will burn when lit!

Johnny Appleseed Day : Book and crafts

Happy Tuesday and I am celebrating with Apples -- in honor of Johnny Appleseed day I am sharing a great children book, a cute craft and my scrapbook page featuring a recipe for Apple butter....

Help your little one dream big with a Little Golden Book biography all about the American hero Johnny Appleseed! The perfect introduction to nonfiction for preschoolers!

In this simple yet lively book, preschoolers will be introduced to John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed. Lyrical text and bright, appealing artwork capture the essence of this important American and early conservationist who traveled the country planting apple trees. Little ones will enjoy engaging anecdotes about Johnny Appleseed, beginning with the young John, who liked to walk barefoot in the cool, quiet woods. They’ll gain a clear understanding of the way he helped American settlers by walking a hundred thousand miles in his lifetime, for over fifty years, to plant seeds. Fun facts at the end—such as how Johnny Appleseed looked poor in his worn-out clothes, but died owning over a thousand acres of land—round out this nonfiction book with typical Little Golden Book style and warmth.

The Legend:

Johnny Appleseed’s legend begins when John Chapman left the family farm and signed on as an apprentice for an orchardist named Crawford. After that, fact and fiction become intertwined.  There are anecdotal reports of “Johnny Appleseed” appearing here and there over the middle Atlantic states, with key sightings in Pennsylvania. It’s likely that Chapman had combined his love of itinerant travel with his skills as an apple orchardist, and roamed the young United States looking for opportunity, locating landowners interested in planting apple orchards or starting cider mills.

Apple Crafts:

  • Paper plate
  • Red construction paper torn into little pieces
  • A little brown and green construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencil or crayon
  • Glue

Directions:

  1. Beforehand cut a little notch in the paper plate to resemble an apple.
  2. Spread glue all over the front of the paper plate and cover in the red paper pieces.
  3. Cut a little stem from brown paper and glue to the back.
  4. Cut a green leaf and glue on the top.
  5. Cut a little worm from green paper and glue on the front and draw a smiley face. You could partially cover the worm with red paper to make it look like he’s coming out of a hole.

Death Bee Comes Her : An Oregon Honeycomb Mystery Book 1

Book :   Includes tips and recipes!

Welcome to a specialty shop in the Oregon tourist town of Oceanview, where it’s all things honey—from taffy to body scrub. But murder can make things sticky . . .

A BALMY WAY TO GO

With her Let It Bee honey boutique buzzing along nicely, life is as sweet as nectar for Wren Johnson—until she takes a morning walk along the Pacific beach with her Havana Brown cat, Everett, and stumbles upon the body of Agnes Snow, the cranky queen of the local craft fairs, stiff as driftwood. More unfortunate? Clutched in the victim’s fist is a label from Wren’s homemade beeswax-and-honey lip balm. Which makes Officer Jim Hampton focus his dreamy-blue Paul Newman eyes on Wren as suspect number one.

With fabulous feline support from Everett, Wren must comb the town for clues and clear her name before someone else gets stung.

Honey Coffee

  • 2 C strong Coffee
  • 1/2 C milk
  • 1/4 C honey
  • 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon

My fun craft to share:

  • Real leaves
  • Paper (preferably thin or lightweight)
  • Crayons or oil pastels

Collect leaves of various shapes and sizes. You can use fresh leaves or dried fallen ones. Place a leaf with its bottom side facing up. Put a sheet of paper, preferably thin or lightweight, over the leaf. Rub the side of a crayon or an oil pastel gently on the area over the leaf. As you do this, you’ll see the colored areas start to take the shape of the leaf. Continue until you’ve rubbed over the entire leaf. Remove the leaf from under the paper. This completes the basic steps for making a leaf rubbing.

Shake it Up

Today  making a card for Shopping our Stash challenge...

SOS505 - Shake It Up

Hello crafty friends!
We are back with a new challenge - this one is called Shake It Up. So as the title says we  would like to see shaker elements on your projects.

My Card from my stash :

My Christmas shaker card was part of a Paper Pumpkin card kit from a few years back. I loved all the great pieces in this kit.

The outside clear  round shaker is filled with stars as SNOW! Making this ornaments card a favorite of mine.

Making a basic shaker card:

  • Card stock
  • Blank card
  • X-Acto knife and mat
  • Paper cutter
  • Foam tape
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Clear acetate
  • Shaker filler material (sequins, seed beads, glitter, etc.)

  • Cut Out the Front. Cut a piece of card stock to match the size of your blank card. Then cut out the window on the card stock with an X-Acto knife. If you want the card to have a cut-out saying (like the “hi” shown here) make this with your X-Acto knife as well. (It’s also totally fine to keep it simple.)Now line the back of the window cutout with craft glue.Cut a piece of clear acetate about ½” larger than the window. Center the acetate over the back of the window and adhere it to the card stock.Add foam tape around the entire border of the window, making sure that there aren’t any gaps in the tape where bits of filler could work their way out after the card is assembled. add some shaker fill in the center, then remove the backing from the foam tape. Line up the blank card with the window assembly and press down to seal the shaker cut out to the front of the card. Now just write your message, slip it in an envelope, and get ready for the recipient to be seriously impressed!
